What exercises can I do to improve my ability to do push up while my broken hand heals?
I recently broke my hand in an accident and I need to take an army physical fitness test soon. I usually max the push up event with about 75 or so push ups in 2 minutes. The doctor told me the hand should take 6 weeks to heal and my army pt test is in 7 weeks from now. I broke my hand about 2 weeks ago. So should be about 4 weeks left to heal it. I am worried I will lose a lot of push ups because I can not do any with my broken hand right now. Is there any other exercises I can do to maintain my shape while this heals?
Details, I broke the fifth metacarpal on my right hand(I am a righty too) near the base of the bone, the part that attachs the bone to the wrist. Also known as a boxer’s fracture. Basicly I broke the bone that attachs your pinkie finger to your wrist.
Right now I have a water proof short cast on it that puts it in a position that has my hand as if i was going to do a pull up. Also I do pt 4 times a week and since the break I have been doing about 6 sets of sit ups along with flutter kicks and crunchs and a long run. I always max the sit ups with 80+ sit ups however i never do that great on the run though(anywhere from about 13:40 to 14:50). I am 20 years old so I am pretty young and believe that this will heal pretty fast. I believe my push ups will bounce back pretty fast, I just want to make sure of it.
